Stories Behind the Scene & Song Lyrics
To maximize your enjoyment of our album, here are some stories & words of some of our original songs!
Uncovering what's behind the cover: Modeling for our front cover art is Spuds, The Bunny, an adorable pet bunny of Rob and his wife Kris, occasionally "bunny-sat" by Kix and Brian. This beloved bunny sadly passed away several months after the album release. We renamed our music studio to S.P.U.D.S. (Studio Previously Unknown as Dandelion Salad) in his honor. R.I.P., Spuds!!!
INSIDE JACKET ILLUSTRATION
Our CD album is like an old-school vinyl record album to have an inside pocket to tuck in the CD. One side of the inside jacket illustration is hand-drawn by Kix. It's a parody of the epic cover art (by Al Hirschfeld) of Aerosmith's album, Draw The Line. (Aerosmith album copyright Columbia Records)
The very first original song written by Titan Fun Key in 2011. Here in Wisconsin, we might feel like singing blues on icy weather, but the song is none to do with our winter. We played this song at Battle of the Bands in 2012 and won the first place. So great memory is attached. Another fun fact: aspiring mixologist Rob created a refreshing cocktail named Icy Blues, which recipe he shares with our fans!
I say you’re cold, you say I’m weak
I say you’re silent, you say don’t speak
I shouldn’t love you and yet I do
From your hot curves to your icy blues
You don’t remember just how we met
I don’t believe that I’ll ever forget
Your red hair hanging in front of you
The perfect frame for those icy blues
Would you, could you?
Would you, should you?
Would you, could you…
Flash those icy blues?
Well you ignore me just when you please
You know I crave you so you just tease
The way you use me, it’s nothing new
Cuz I’m a fool for those icy blues
And I don’t leave you… although I should, and I…
Can’t help but wonder if I even could
It’s a shame what I do for you
Anything for those icy blues, now…
Would you, could you?
Would you, should you?
Would you, could you…
Flash those icy blues?
Well you ignore me just when you please
You know I crave you so you just tease
The way you use me, it’s nothing new
Cuz I’m a fool for those icy blues
And I don’t leave you… although I should, and I…
Can’t help but wonder if I even could
It’s a shame what I do for you
Anything for those icy blues
Would you, could you?
Would you, should you?
Would you, could you…
Flash those icy blues?
We work together in the process of writing songs, typically starting with Rob coming up with ideas, but Fourteen Hands is an exception. It was Kix who first penned the initial version of music and lyrics, in response to the sad news she received about her beloved uncle's terminal cancer diagnosis. He was a free-spirited dreamer, but fought cancer bravely and stayed positive until the last day. To her, he, who was born in the Year of Horse, was like a wild horse, hence "14 hands." Kix plays piano nostalgically as he was the reason she had a piano lesson in her young childhood. This part is a funny story Kix will be happy to share if you ask.
I hear them knocking at my door
I think I’ve heard this song before
The kind that ends in tragedy
You don’t say? That’s nothing new to me
Kneeling in my garden
I feel the earth between my toes
The joy I reap in summertime
Depends on what I sow
They say I’m not too sensible
I’m trying to grow my vegetables
They say I can’t ignore the clock
I know the time – I do what I want
Kneeling in my garden
I feel the earth between my toes
The joy I reap in summertime
Depends on what I sow
They say I never made a plan
And I’m the blacksheep of the clan
I couldn’t love a bank account
I had some dreams – and I tried them out
Kneeling in my garden
I feel the earth between my toes
The joy I reap in summertime
Depends on what I sow
Kneeling in my garden
I feel the sun upon my face
Working for tomorrow
Living for today
And how I love my garden
And I love my family, too
I feel that beauty every day
People, how about you?
People, how about you?
The owners of the Highway 18 Outdoor Theatre in Jefferson, Wisconsin wanted to advertise the bar and grill they run behind the big screen, so Titan Fun Key composed our tune “Highway 18” with the goal of helping moviegoers find their way to the “hidden” 1950s style joint! Check out the music video we made for the song in Tunes !
Meet me at the drive-in before the show
A cozy little spot you may not know
Meet me at my favorite place to go!
Just cruise on up here, baby, and find me at the bar
Behind the screen - and you can leave your car
Just stroll on up for dinner at the bar!
Just walk right up the steps, and sit right down
Check out the scene behind the screen
The bar and grill at Highway 18!
I’m waiting for you baby, and everybody’s here
Gather round for laughs, good food and beer
Now have a seat, cuz they all love me here!
Play it, Rob!
Just walk right up the steps, and sit right down
Check out the scene behind the screen
The bar and grill at Highway 18!
We’re groovin’ at the drive-in before the show
All the cool cats’ favorite place to go
The hippest spot to meet before the show!
Just walk right up the steps, and sit right down
Just walk right up the steps, and sit right down
Just walk right up the steps, and sit… right…
Hep, hep, hey!
Sometimes you just have to go… and write a song in the 90 seconds it takes one of the band members to use the facilities. To avoid embarrassment we won’t mention the name of the bass player with the small bladder. Because the rest of TFK wasn’t patient enough to wait for a flush (which you can hear at the end of the song) they started jamming… and Had to Go was unleashed! Sidenote, for YEARS after we wrote this song, anytime anyone interrupted practice for a bathroom break, they knew this music would accompany their efforts!
Tuesday afternoon: we’re in the music room
Stepped out to use the loo - I thought you’d be back soon!
Where’d you go, baby? It’s been a long time and I… I miss you!
You didn’t feel the groove, I guess we’re through but I miss you!
This used to be our place, you used to play our bass
In the music room - oh, baby, come back soon!
Why’d you go? Thought we were tight and funky! I miss you!
You didn’t feel the groove, I guess we’re through but I… I miss you, I miss you!
This used to be our place, you used to play our bass
In the music room - oh, baby, come back soon!
Why’d you go? Thought we were tight and funky! Ow! I miss you!
You didn’t feel the groove, I… I guess we’re through now but I… I miss you, I still miss you!
